Sóller Mallorca Poster - 50×70 cm
Posternature
Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain and located in the Mediterranean. Puerto de Sóller is quiet and peaceful with a nice little beach and wonderful sunsets. You should travel here if you want to experience Mallorca for connoisseurs. In the Plaza de la Constitución de Sóller there's an imposing gray-colored limestone rock building where you can still see the different remodelling that it has suffered over the years: the parish church of Sant Bartomeu de Sóller. Sant Bartomeu Church, that you see on the poster, built before 1236, the primitive temple was of Romanesque-Gothic style and was way different from the current one: it was smaller and had the main entrance located in what is now known as Portal de Dalt (side entrance of the temple). In 1688 the original church collapses partially and a new baroque church begins to be built that wasn't finished until 1733. During this reform the baroque structure of the temple is constructed and the orientation is changed. The third and final reform was carried out between 1904 and 1947. After a long pause that lasted from 1913 to 1946, the current facade designed by Gaudí's disciple, Joan Rubió Bellver, was finished. Thanks to its atrium crowned by a large pointed arch with two ogival arches and a rose window and, above it, a staggered auction with nine openings, the parish church of Sant Bartomeu de Sóller has become one of the favourite photos of the valley and a sample of how the modernist Art Nouveau mixed with Gothic historicism. If we leave the Plaza de la Constitución and go inside the church, consecrated to the apostle San Bartolomé and our lady of Bonany, we'll discover a Gothic-style temple and rectangular floor with 7 chapels on each side and a baroque heart behind the door principal. Also, inside the temple, we find two works by the modernist sculptor Josep Llimona: an image of Sant Marçal and another of the Heart of Jesus. To the left of the parish church of Sant Bartomeu de Sóller we find the Bank of Sóller -also designed by Joan Rubió and Bellver- in perfect harmony with the modernist facade of the temple and that helps give a "gaudinian" air to the center of Sóller.
